Gills boosted by trio’s return

Gillingham received a boost ahead of this weekend’s trip to Cheltenham Town when a trio of players made welcome returns on Tuesday afternoon.

In a behind closed doors friendly with Wycombe Wanderers at Priestfield, Andy Frampton, Matt Fish and Jordan Obita all featured increasing their chances of being involved on Saturday.

Fish played a full ninety minutes, his first game for The Gills since picking up an injury at Crawley on Boxing Day, whilst Frampton featured for the first hour.

As for Obita, he came on for Frampton for the last half an hour as Gillingham lost the game 1-0 to a Max Kretzschmar header.

There was also good news for left back Joe Carter who played, making his long awaited comeback after suffering a broken leg at the start of the season.

With four players suspended for this weekend’s game, it will come as a hige relief to Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler to have some more players at his disposal.

Whether they have got enough football in their legs yet is another matter, but even if the likes of Frampton and Fish don’t start the game, they are expected to be part of the sixteen man travelling squad.

Meanwhile, there is a chance that striker Jo Kuffour could recover from his knee injury in time to take some part in Saturday’s game, however the likes of Curtis Weston (6-8 weeks) and Gavin Tomlin (2-3 weeks) will once again be missing.
